Gábor Einspach is a relentlessly driven gallery owner and art collector — a central figure in Budapest’s contemporary art scene — who has built his entire life around control and success. Everything he has achieved, he achieved on his own, and he never allowed himself to appear weak.
When he is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer — an illness only five percent survive — he does not collapse. He rejects consolation and redemption narratives alike. For Gábor, cancer is not a teacher but a hard, unforgiving challenge in which losing is not an option.
Over several years, Asia Dér’s documentary follows his outer and inner battle. As exhausting treatments gradually wear down his body, a deeper question emerges: can a man who has chosen strength as a lifelong survival strategy allow himself to appear vulnerable, even to himself? And what if survival demands emotional surrender — or emotional clarity demands physical loss?
