5th Verzió Young Critics Workshop – Call for Applications
Applications are open for the 5th Verzió Young Critics Workshop, taking place from 16–20 November 2026 in Budapest during the 23rd Verzió International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival.
The workshop invites aspiring and early-career film critics, journalists, writers, filmmakers, artists and film students with an interest in documentary cinema to develop their film writing and editing skills in an international setting.
Led by film and media critic and curator Steve Rickinson, the writing-intensive workshop offers participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow young critics, receive feedback from peers and experts, and connect with filmmakers, critics and other members of the international documentary community.
Selected participants will receive festival accreditation and access to industry events. Four participants can receive reimbursement for travel within Europe and accommodation for the duration of the workshop.
The workshop will be held in English and requires on-site participation in Budapest. There is no application fee.
Applicants are asked to submit a short film review or essay in English.
Application deadline: 31 August 2026
The workshop is part of the Doc Around Europe Generations project, supported by the Creative Europe MEDIA programme.
