Green Frames Think Tank: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Film Festivals

Green Frames: Rethinking Sustainability in the Festival Landscape

As part of Bio to B – Industry Days | DOC at Biografilm Festival, the Green Frames: Festival Sustainability Think Tank brought together representatives from the Doc Around Europe network and guest festivals for two days of reflection, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative action.

Held on June 7–8, 2025, at Cinema Modernissimo in Bologna, the event focused on practical approaches to sustainability in the cultural and documentary sector. Through keynote presentations, case studies, and interactive sessions, participants explored how festivals can reduce their ecological footprint while fostering social and cultural sustainability.

    Key contributions included:

    • Marta García Larriu (Another Way Film Festival): Moderation and insights on sustainable storytelling and creative leadership

    • Nicola Zengiaro (University of Turin): A deep dive into multispecies festival design and ecosemiotics

    • Alessio Baglioni (Phoresta): A case study on Biografilm’s CO₂ tracking and compensation strategies

The Think Tank concluded with a joint effort to develop a Decalogue of Good Practices – a shared manifesto offering concrete guidelines to support festivals on their path toward sustainability.

Green Frames reaffirmed the importance of cross-sector collaboration in creating lasting change. Our thanks go to all speakers and participants who made this gathering both meaningful and action-oriented.
