Biography

Maria Girardo (b. 1998) is a visual anthropologist based between Pordenone and Bologna, working across documentary cinema, field research, and archival practices. She holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology from the University of Bologna (2024), with a thesis in Visual Anthropology. She trained as an Archive Producer at Cineteca di Bologna (2026). Her practice explores the intersections of memory, archives, and cultural heritage, with a focus on personal and collective histories. She is currently developing her first feature documentary, Il vangelo secondo Francesco, a collectively directed archival film produced by Meriggio Film and selected for the Past Forward section of Bio to B – Industry Days at Biografilm Festival 2026. She is also conducting a visual ethnography project on the food heritage of the area surrounding the Friulian Dolomites, through video narratives, interviews, and field research.
