Biography
Petri Luukkainen (1984) is a Finnish director known for high-concept documentaries exploring themes of environment and identity. His creative roots lie in the late 1990s: as a teenager, he made low-resolution videos and GIF films for personal websites, shaping an early “internet background” that still informs his visual approach. He began directing professionally at 17, working across formats from commercial spots to wedding films, before discovering documentary filmmaking as his core pursuit.
His debut feature documentary My Stuff (2013) screened in cinemas worldwide and grew into multiple adaptations — the reality TV format Stripped (USA, UK, Germany, etc.) and the Warner Bros. feature remake 100 Things (2018). Since then, Petri has worked internationally both on independent films and as a commissioned director for ARTE, BBC, DR, NRK, RÚV, SVT, Viaplay, Yle and others.
Alongside long-term projects, he has engaged in photography, video and art commissions, collaborating with Time Magazine, BBC World Service, Wien Museum MUSA and Universal Music, among others. He is currently based in Finland.
