Biography

Philipp Schaeffer is a director from Hamburg, Germany. After graduating in philosophy from King´s College London in 2017, he spent two years working on Augmented Reality projects between Los Angeles, the Canadian Arctic and Berlin. Currently, he is pursuing further studies in documentary directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. His work has been nominated for the German Film Critics´ Award and the IDA Award, licensed by The New Yorker Documentary and shown at festivals like Sundance, Camerimage, and CPH:DOX.

FILMOGRAPHY

SILENT NIGHT (2024, 14 min)
Premiered at CPH:DOX 2024, where it was nominated for the NEW:VISION Award. Selected for the German Short Film Association's Short Export programme, with screenings at cultural institutions in more than 20 countries.

THE UNICORN IN SNOWPANTS SUDDENLY RAN OFF (2022, 18 min)
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at Slamdance Film Festival 2023, qualifying for the Academy Awards. Nominated for the IDA Documentary Awards 2023 and the German Film Critics Award 2022. Licensed by The New Yorker Documentary.

CHEMKIDS (2022, 27 min) – Director of Photography
Premiered at Camerimage 2022, where it was nominated for the Golden Frog for Best Short Documentary. Selected for Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2023.

A JESTER'S TALE (2019) – 12 min, Augmented Reality Experience, Co-Writer
