Biography

Valerio Filardo is a Sicilian-born director and screenwriter. After attending school in Palermo, he moved to Bologna, where he graduated in Cinema and Media from DAMS, and then to Rome, where he attended the Cinecittà Film Academy, specializing in Film Direction. He later moved to London, where he lived and worked as a freelance filmmaker for several years before returning to Italy in 2016.

In addition to several commercials and music videos (broadcast on both MTV Italy and MTV UK), his filmography includes three short films: L’oro del Sud (2018), Sarino (2019), and Tana liberi tutti (2022, premiered at the 52nd Giffoni Film Festival).

With Chi sale sul treno (premiered at the 66th Festival dei Popoli), he entered the realm of collective documentary filmmaking. The film was selected for Bio to B 2024 at the Biografilm Festival and for the industry section of FIPADOC 2025.
