SEÑOR, LLÉVAME PRONTO

LORD, TAKE ME SOON — Spain, France 2024 — Directed by: Guillermo F. Flórez — 70 min — Spoken language: Spanish — Subtitles: English — Production Companies: Flórez Films SL (Spain) La Société du Sensible (France) — Producers: Guillermo F. Flórez, Nadège Labé

Carmen’s life has always been a Quixotesque comedy. Living through a civil war, being a nun, building a new life, divorcing in a conservative society, having several lovers and most of all, never following orders. Now, after 86 years of adventures, Carmen is planning her suicide.

Carmen was born in Valdepeñas, La Mancha. She survived war, famine, and the constraints of being a woman in a conservative society. After 14 years in a monastery, she was expelled for "bad behavior." Once free, she bought a skirt and went to Madrid to lose her virginity, causing a scandal back home.

Fifty years later, I meet her in Madrid, where she plans to commit suicide in six months. She gives away her belongings, revealing a complicated bond with Arcelindo, a Cape Verdean child she once cared for. As she sorts through her memories, burns photos, and says her goodbyes, the absurdity of her plan unfolds. Will this remain a comedy?
