Biography
Born in Madrid in 1983, Guillermo Flórez is a documentary filmmaker, producer, and cinematographer. He began directing documentaries in 2007, with his debut film Zindabad! (2010), shot in India and screened at more than 30 international film festivals. He studied at the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba) and later received a La Caixa Scholarship to complete a Master's degree at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he subsequently taught filmmaking.
In 2015, he directed Speechless, a documentary exploring a brain injury that affects language, which was distributed to more than one hundred universities across North America. While based in the Netherlands, he worked as a Director of Photography for various productions, directed several short documentaries, and produced feature-length projects.
In 2023, he founded Flórez Films in Madrid, where he directed and produced To Live in a Wild Sea (2023), released through The New York Times Op-Docs and selected for numerous international festivals. The film was also shortlisted for the European Short Film Audience Award (ESFAA). Alongside his filmmaking work, Guillermo serves as a consultant for institutions including Creative Europe MEDIA and is currently developing a new feature documentary co-produced between Spain, France, and Brazil.
